Ossabaw Pigs

Ossabaw pigs are a breed of pig descended from pigs left on Ossabaw island off the coast of Georgia, USA, by the Spanish in the 16th century.

They are an interesting model for insulin resistance and obesity because they have a “thrifty phenotype”. The fatten easily and if you feed them soybean oil they become torpid and insulin resistant.
