SCD1

« Back to Glossary Index

SCD1 is a lipoegenic (fat making) enzyme that converts the saturated stearic acid to the monounsaturated oleic acid. Removing SCD1 from leptin resistant obese mice reverses most of the effects of leptin resistance. SCD1 is strongly upregulated in obese humans and seems to be a key regulator of fat storage Vs. oxidation.

Sterculia Oil blocks the enzymatic activity of SCD1.

The Desaturase Index (DI) is an indirect indicator of SCD1 activity levels.
